Slots Operators Appeal Decision In Pennsylvania

Slot operators from the State of Pennsylvania are fighting a legal battle to change the
Gaming Control Board’s decision that denied them the licenses necessary to establish the slot industry in the state.

Lawyers of the four slot operator groups to which the licenses have been denied spent more than four hours in the courtroom attacking the decisions of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Slots operators against the Regulation

Representatives of rooms and machine operators of Madrid, have expressed to the councilor of the Community Treasury, Engracia Hidalgo, their opposition to some of the aspects contemplated in the new project of Slot Machine’s Regulation.
This opposition, exposed during a personal interview held with the councilor, is based mainly on two aspects: the refusal of the rooms and operators to allow machines of the B3 type to be installed in bingo rooms, and the removal in the project of the demand of a minimum of 150 square meters of surface to be able to exploit a room.

Slot machine Bill approved in Indiana

A proposal that allows slot machines at Indiana’s two horserace tracks was approved this week. This measure will channel approximately $500 million toward property tax relief and is the biggest expansion of gambling in the state since riverboat casinos were authorized by the Legislature in 1993.
Lawmakers also passed another bill that aims to attack illegal gambling. Both bills have now been sent to Governor Mitch Daniels’ office. “Lawmakers faced mounting pressure to approve the slot machine bill to help homeowners cope with property tax bills”.

Bally signs contract with Las Vegas Sands

A spokesperson for Bally Technologies Inc. announced that the company has signed a contract with Las Vegas Sands Corp. to provide slot machines, bonus systems and other gambling products at nine casino resorts in Las Vegas, Macau and Singapore.
The agreement covers The Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino under construction on The Strip in Las Vegas, six Las Vegas Sands casinos to be built on the Cotai Strip on China, The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel under construction on the Cotai Strip and The Marina Bay Sands, under construction in Singapore.

Intralot launches a monitoring system in New Zealand

Intralot New Zealand has worked with the Department of Internal Affairs of the country, on the 1613 authorized bases, 20,256 machines and 1000 jackpot controllers to launch a new Electronic Monitoring System in the country.
Intralot has been chosen as the service provider to implement and operate the EMS in the name of the Government of New Zealand. The connection between all the bases was finished ten days before the deadline.
The most relevant aspect of the EMS is the control over illegal gambling, guaranteeing the integrity of the games and limiting the chances of fraud.

Machines that showed subliminal messages fixed

Some weeks ago, 87 video slot machines were pulled from several casinos in Canada, because they showed subliminal messages to players. Now, Canadian casino operator Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. is to decide whether to return the machines to the gaming floors after the manufacturer delivered software to fix the failure.
"We are looking at several weeks before we implement the new software, and at this point it hasn't been fully decided if we will," a spokeswoman for the government agency explained. She added that a decision is expected next week.

Big innovation in slot machines

Slot machine manufacturers are planning to develop what is considered by some members of the industry as the most important innovation in slot machines since the invention of the one arm bandit itself. The new machines will be able to remember players’ names, take their drink order and sell them tickets to a show.

“I consider that we are in the casino industry today where the Internet was seven years ago,” Jeff Allen, Bally Technologies director of business development explained.

NBI raids illegal gambling den

Agents of the National Bureau of Investigations (NBI) raided the den in Quezon City and seized 71 slot machines that were installed in the establishment.

The raid was organized because representatives of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. told the NBI that the den was operating gambling devices without a proper license.

After applying for a search warrant agents raided the establishment at 114 Tomas Morato Avenue.

The Brazilian soccer player is part of the a casino project

Las Vegas based Eighth Wonder has included Brazilian soccer star Pele in its team, hoping that this move will help them obtain Singapore’s second casino license. A 5,000-seat stadium named after Pele will be part of Harry’s Island gaming and leisure resort if Eighth Wonders wins the bidding.

The soccer star will also be in charge of the Pele Sports Academy that will promote youth participation in sports. “Pele will become Harry's Island ambassador for goodwill, sportsmanship and the pursuit of excellence," a spokesperson for the company said.

No slot machines for Ohio

Ohio voters rejected this week a proposal named ‘Learn and Earn’ that aimed to promote gambling in order to create scholarships for college students.

The group that supported the initiative spent more than $20 millions to advertise the constitutional amendment.

“The people of Ohio saw through the sham and were not fooled,” Senator George Voinovich said about the results of the ballot.
