According to specialist licensing lawyer Jon Payne, the new UK gambling regulations to come into effect in September, could have harmful effects for a lot of people who run gambling businesses. Such businesses include things like poker, lotteries and raffles and fantasy football events.
“The debate about the super casino has largely obscured the fact that the new rules and regulations under the Gambling Act 2005 will have wide-ranging implications for many premises including pubs, takeaways, amusement arcades and betting shops,” a gambling expert said.
As of September, the Gambling Commission will be entitled to void bets in special circumstances and the offence of cheating at gambling will be created. Also, earlier this year, operators were asked to apply for new licenses in order to be able to run gambling businesses.
Those operators who did not submit an application, will be able to continue their activities only until September 1, with a few exceptions. Operators who were not granted a new license, will have to stop their activities when their current license expires.
